Intel OS X Volume Controls

/ 30 September 2007

An interesting little feature that isn’t mentioned anywhere in documentation that the Intel OS X has is about volume control. Unlike all the older mac models, all the Intel-based macs have two separate volume controls. One for the internal speakers, and one for the headphone jack. It automatically switches between the two depending on the state of your mac’s headphone jack (is something plugged in or not?). It’s useful because you can set the headphone jack’s volume to a low volume since the sound will be so close to your ears, and set the internal speaker’s volume a bit louder since the sound won’t ever be close to your ears. Enjoy, Alex.
