Unwanted Updates From Software Update

/ 3 August 2007

Rarely (but in the time you use a mac) you’ll see an update pop up on Software Update that you don’t want. There’s always the ignored updates list, but recently that has stopped working entirely for me. Since all Software Update use to know what software and versions of software to update are the receipt .pkg files, you can keep just those. What I mean is that another way to hide unwanted updates (per version) is to delete the actual files known to you as the update. If all you keep around are the installer receipt .pkg files (located at /Library/Receipts) then the actual updates (apps, kexts, etc.) won’t annoy you by being installed, yet Software Update and the standalone installers will think that the software is installed and not annoy you with trying to install them. Enjoy, Alex.
