Serious Accident In The Twin Cities

/ 1 August 2007

Yesterday there was an extremely horrible accident in the Twin Cities. The Interstate 35W bridge (over the Mississippi river) collapsed. The bridge was in the midst of being repaired and so two lanes in each direction were closed. It collapsed during rush hour, so there were two lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic in both directions on the highway when the bridge collapsed. 9 are dead and more are missing. There’s an article at the NPR website and a video at the WCCO website. There’s also a wikipedia article on the accident. I hope nobody I know was on or around the bridge when it collapsed. Alex.
