Secure Notes Amongst Passwords

/ 22 April 2007

Most users of Mac OS X know of the keychain and of it’s main use to store user names and passwords for remote macs and internet sites. But not as many know that you can also store notes in the same keychain file. Normal day-to-day notes aren’t of the type to be kept behind the keychain but certain notes that you may have in AB cards now are. The type that would be good to put behind your login password would be credit card numbers, banking PINs, and other information only you should know. The security flaw of keeping this information in AB cards is that those aren’t directly password protected the way that any item on your keychain is. To create a secure note that lives on your keychain open the Keychain Access.app and go to File->New Secure Note Item.
