Display Brightness Illusions

/ 7 May 2007

Every so often when I use my iBook G4 it’s display will seem really dark even though the brightness level is at the top. This is all due to the ambient light in the room I’m using my mac in. It can get quite annoying some of the time. It’s a hard thing for me to get used to. The bad thing about that is that when I have a MacBook the display will be more likely (due to the glossy factor) to get interfered with by sunlight (and ambient light in general). That’s quite ironic since that same attribute of the display is what helps it be visible for normal use in sunlit areas. I’m also wondering if this is also partly affected by the display’s age. This isn’t that much of an issue in any way, but it is something to keep in mind and is one of those things that keeps itself in the user’s mind.
