Thumbnail Cache To Crash

Two or three times now iPhoto has crashed and on restart asked me to rebuild it’s thumbnail cache (the file that holds the thumbnails that are used to show each image in the sorting views of iPhoto). I wonder if the cache file ends up crashing the software, or if the crash corrupts the thumbnail cache. Have any of you ever run into this same little problem?
