Crash-Free iScroll Isn’t Apple’s Doing

/ 16 January 2007

Today when showing someone iScroll I noticed that the underlying kernel extension is a PPC build, not a Universal build like the copy that kept panicking my iBook G4. It just so happens that by reading the developer’s site I learned that at the time of start of project he had, and may still have a PowerBook G4, so this Intel-compatible iScroll may have been created by a friend of his, and therefore be the issue that I had with it, and why it was so buggy. If that is the case, then it may mean that you can’t have Universal kexts, and that if you do (on a PPC or Intel mac) that you should find a chip-specific kext for that cross-platform kext, just to lessen the risk of a kernel panic.
